The Last of the Big Birds

My plan was to spend most of the afternoon looking for birds, and then watch the sun go down. It didn't happen...the weather didn't co-operate.

It rained almost all day, and when the rain quit, the clouds didn't leave.

We are leaving tomorrow (aiming for 9 a.m.), and I have just barely started loading the car. We hope to get by Atlanta, which is about 500 miles away.

I'm going to miss my shorebirds and the nice weather, but after 11 weeks...I'm about ready to go home. Michigan awaits us, but it is 1,250 miles to get there.

My butt hurts just thinking about it.

From left to right...are a scratching giant egret, a staring pelican, and a close-up of a blue heron.
