The full procedure on his spine, yesterday 31 March 2016, accessed from the front of his neck was not carried out as the risks of paralysing or killing him far outweighed the benefits that could be achieved. He was in theatre for over three hours while they investigated, using a fibre optical cable with a camera on the end. He was then sent and to an orthopaedic ward overnight as his bed space in the ‘A’ wards, where he should have been sent, had been given to someone else.
 
During the morning he was checked by the assisting surgeon and told he could go home. I collected him and we arrived home at about 1300 hours. Our daughter and granddaughter visited during the afternoon and after we had waved goodbye, he looked in the mirror and discovered that the wound had swollen and become very discoloured.
 
We had been told that if there were any problems to go to our GP so we did. He was not happy with the wound and said go to A and E and take a bag. We arrived at A and E around 1700 hours and to cut a very long story short, he was eventually seen, after being seen by various other people, by the surgeon who had assisted at the operation. They readmitted him, to the proper ‘A’ ward this time at 2330 hours. The GP’s referral appeared to be ignored as different people kept asking the same questions.
 
He had taken a picture of the sunrise from his hospital bed, but that is on his iPhone; he might add it as an extra when he feels well again. So here you have a picture taken in the little cubical where we spent several hours yesterday evening. To see him after he came home, with his granddaughter, taken during the afternoon, it is on my journal.
 
   
2 April – He has telephoned this morning and is being kept in for observation today, although may be allowed out later this evening.
