Inversions

aptly the title of the Iain M Banks book I've just finished...

I woke in the night and the sky was magical - so when I awoke again first thing to a wood shrouded in fog I knew it was time for a quick breakfast and up onto the tops in the hope of a scene just like this. Obviously I'd had a plan to blip 'Side 3' but that had to be put on hold - though part of it can still be seen in this.
With pooch making her excited noise in the back I was soon parked on the tops just a few metres above the cloud and we made our way along to the monument - I did wonder if the BT van who stopped on the road and grabbed a shot eastwards was a blipper too, but other than him not another soul was seen. With several shots taken we had a wonderful wander round Beacon Hill, over to the Thunderstone (great name for a disappointing rock) and back along the old quarry road. As we got to the car the sun's heat was starting to lift the inversion up the hill - we drove home with the foglights on - but were drinking coffee and answering emails by 9am - a great start to a day.
