A memorable day driving the new model of America's most iconic muscle car. Not exactly an inconspicuous machine for a country drive in the Cotswolds! This is the latest incarnation of a model that has been around since the 1950s, when it was an instant success, with a million sold in the first two years. Respect for the mighty Ford Mustang.

This car was the star of today, a vivid yellow Mustang with a glorious V8 engine throbbing under that long bonnet. Sheer magic for the ears, aural porn, almost. There is also a more modestly powered 2.3 litre version, and it's a strong performer, but 70 per cent of Mustang buyers go for the V8.

Our Ford hosts staged a pub-quiz-style contest for the assembled motoring journalists, to test our knowledge of the Mustang across the years. We were also tasked to decorate a model of the car.
