Diving Kingfisher
I've been waiting for blue skies and fluffy white clouds to take a shot of the new scupture at Trentham Gardens. Unless I choose to visit a dedicated hide to photograph kingfishers, this is the best I can do for now!
It's been carved using a chainsaw, from a tree trunk, by local sculptor Andy Burgess. We do get kingfishers on the River Trent which runs alongside the lake here. In fact I saw one this morning. Or rather I heard it first as it has such a distinctive whistle, rather than a chirp.
It was a real bird Spring morning. I heard my first chiff chaff and spotted a few house martins swooping over the lake.
