Am Wiesensee
Grammatic & Undramatic Introduction
The word for "the lake" or "the loch" in German is "der See" (pronounced Say). But that only goes for freshwater lakes. The North Sea is die Nordsee. That took me ages to learn. And because I was at the Wiesensee, you say "am Wiesensee" where the "am" is short for "an dem" because it's Dative. And if I was at the North Sea that would be "an der Nordsee".
We were out with friends today, taking advantage of the lovely weather, 16 °C (61F) and we went to another place I'd never been - Westerwald and specifically the Wiesensee. It was very pretty and will get prettier as the weather improves.
Despite the water temperature being around 5°C, there were people out windsurfing. Not for me, much prefer being warm.
Still it was warm enough for us to stop for a break at a café and to sit outside for the first time this year. That felt good.
And we came home to the neighbours out in the back garden and barbecuing for the first time this year.
