Museo Pepe Moreno, El Ejido

Out and About in Almeria No. 5

A beautiful sunny day with a light breeze, but not cold.

At the quiz last night (we came second in the first half) we were discussing the 'odd' building and the top of El Ejido(see extras).   We knew it was a museum of old cars but it never looked to be open.   I have previously taken a blip of the British Telephone Box there.   However, a party from the quiz were going there today.   One of or quizzers arranged a visit for the six of us.   What an eye opener.

Firstly, there was no charge - just make a donation (which is always a bit tricky!)   Secondly, the place was amazing!

The first floor is dedicated to the repair and restoration of the vintage vehicles.   In the collage you can see top left one that has been completed on one half to show the effect.   The American Police car c. 1940, is under restoration and I think this was one of my favourites - what stories that could tell!

The second floor was just overflowing with fully restored cars of all eras and makes, plus a Fire Engine, a Horse drawn carriage c. 1810.   I have struggled to pick what to show!

In extras I think you will see the size of the problem I had!!   Included is a wine press which belonged to his Grandfather.

There were also all manner of old equipment , radios, typewriters sewing machines - in fact anything old! - oh and not forgetting the motorcycles, bicycles and prams!

The Museum is the work of one man Pepe Moreno who was born in Murtas, Granada in 1952.   At 17 years old he went to Switzerland to learn his trade and returned to Spain in 1973 to set up in business himself.   The museum is his works life and passion.   I am not sure his wife would ever have seen him, although they managed to have two children!!

What a great afternoon.
