Rocky Mountain Moments

Waiting

This is the male Osprey who arrived back at his nest from his winter home yesterday morning.  It has been confirmed that it is the same male from last year.  Now he is on the lookout for the arrival of his mate.  The other male that was there yesterday morning may have been one of the offspring from last year.  I spent some time at the nest this morning and have been watching him on the Osprey Cam on and off through the day.  The nest was full of snow and it was interesting to see him in it digging and pushing the snow away.  The sun did the rest and now it is clear and ready to prepare for his mate.  She usually arrives within a few days of him.  I've added extras so you can get the lay of the land if you look in on the live feed.  The first is a view of the nest from across Cattail Pond.  If you look closely you can see him on the perch to the right of the nest. The second extra is a closer view so you can see the set up. Just for scale, the Osprey is about 25 inches (63.5 cm) from top of head to end of tail, so you can get an idea how big the nest is.  I hope you enjoy following them with me.  :-)
