My treat misfires

Somewhere in the back of my mind I nurtured the thought that the signal box museum at Romsey would be open to visitors today, and with my daughter and her husband due to call in with my 11-year-old grandson Edoardo, I thought what a perfect treat to take him along.
I know he is almost as fascinated by trains and railway paraphernalia as I am, and for some time I had been promising to take him to see the workings of Romsey’s old signalbox.
But all my plans were to be thwarted . . . yes, the signalbox is open on the third Saturday of the month. But not the third Sunday.
Fortunately I had checked it out earlier in the day, only to find the gates firmly closed and while you could obviously see the iconic signalbox and some of the associated railway paraphernalia from outside the fence, that was not going to be the same as actually climbing the stairs to see the inside workings.
Daughter Michelle and husband Rosario live in Italy, and were here for a treat of their own, and although the result of the RBS Six Nations rugby match of Wales against Italy at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff may not  have brought the result the Italians would have wished for, they said the rugby on the field was good. And Edoardo is just as enthusiastic.
Aaah well. There was reward enough in their trip, and we did get to see them.

But my plans for Edoardo will have to wait to the next time and fingers crossed their visit will coincide with an opening day for the signalbox!
