Priorities
My. How priorities have changed. Time was whenever I visited a pub, restaurant or shop I looked out to make a note of where the loos where.
These days, it seems the priority is whether or not the establishment has a sign like this on its door or somewhere prominent.
Not that I am sure the availability or not of wi-fi is going to either tempt me in, or even deter me, but I suppose it has transformed the way we might behave, and what we might actually do while in the establishment. I have to be the first to admit that I have picked up emails and replied to them while in the coffee shop, and at one time before public wi-fi was quite as prevalent I did make a morning call at a marina front bar while in the south of France to be able to hook up to emails. And I have sat in McDonalds’ car parks to be able to pick up their signal.
And have you noticed that when friends visit you at home, more often than not within ten minutes or so they will have asked what your password is to log into your house wi-fi.
Maybe it’s a generation thing where in the modern world people are brought up in the age of the internet, instant communication and all that goes with it.
A good thing, or detrimental to our way of life? I am not even going down that route. But you are reading my Blip, probably courtesy of wi-fi somewhere!
