Cucumber in waiting?
I have one cucumber plant in the greenhouse and it's promising to take over all the other plants (it's not a big greenhouse, but still). We haven't grown cucumbers before, so I'm hoping there is a good harvest this year!
Shaaamie asked how do bees make a new queen... as I understand (but I'm a novice beekeeper) the worker bees will start to construct special cells called "queen cups" to hold the replacement queen bee larvae. This larvae is identical to that of the worker bee at first, but the workers start to feed the larvae with a diet of royal jelly which allows them to mature into queens. As soon as the new queen emerges from her cell, she will immediately look for any other rival queens and kill them before they can emerge. (Source: Keeping bees by Vivian Head). So now we know!
