BINNA BURRA

Yesterday  - a family birthday - gave us reason to drive 100km south of the city to a mountain retreat where we had walked with the children over 40+ years.  We hadn't been there for 10 years and we feared that it might have been commercialised. But hurrah, give or take a few renovations all is in place. The original, now heritage listed, shingle roof huts are there and a few up-market huts for those who want built in en-suite .
Binna Burra is about 800m above sea level, has a different eco-climate from down on the plains and is set in thick rainforest.  There are miles of tracks for the serious walkers. Trees have grown, a decent vista was elusive and as well it was very hazy.
The tree fern glowed for a couple of minutes in a break in the clouds. The house is that of the Binna Burra pioneers, the Groom family.  Early guests  - say in the 1920s - had to make the last of the ascent by foot or flying-fox.
