Good bye Cambodia, Hello Thailand
The temperature was warmer than it looks. Mid 30's in the late morning made the walk across the tarmac to the plane interesting.
The mid morning temperature of 35º made the long walk across the tarmac to the plane a bit of a shock after the cool and tranquil atmosphere in the Siem Reap International Departures Lounge. We said farewell to Mr Joe our cheerful guide, and Mr Jay our impeccable driver after the customary transfer of US dollars as tips and settled down to an hour long flight to Bangkok where Ms Pé, our new guide, was waiting for us with another driver.
First impressions suggested faster and slightly more orderly traffic in a huge bustling city with people everywhere. Street venders selling clothes, electronics, food and tourist tat wherever they could find space to set up their stalls - including in the midst of "The Business Area" where our hotel was located. For dinner we followed the advice of Pé and trekked along Sukhumvit road to "Cabbages and Condoms" for a selection of beautiful authentic Thai food and a wonderfully inventive display of contraceptives as art. We had expected Thailand to be different and these first impressions didn't disappoint.
