First Spring flowers, then frogs ..
now lambs in the fields and sunshine, it really must be Spring.
Sneaky cold wind though still telling us it is March.
A great walk today in Spring sunshine around Silsden Moor, 7 miles and 3 hours we were told in the book. Well nearly 9 miles and four hours later we were ready for a pint (well I had a half!) in a nearby hostelry in the middle of Silsden. Granted we went wrong once and had to retrace our steps but all in all a great walk if a little hard going due to muddy ground in places.
Most of the walk crossed farmland and I saw my first Spring lambs this year. The first group was a field away, white with black faces but too far away for a photograph.
Then we crossed a farm yard and this little lamb was sitting on a bed of straw in the sun near it's mother but as soon as it saw us it came running bleating for food. It must have been hand reared as you can see here it is searching J's fingers for sustenance. It's mother followed it looking quite perplexed.
Later we crossed fields with brown sheep and black lambs and more white mothers and lambs. We also saw Herdwicks and I think Merinos. So we saw lots of lambs today but this one was special.
Some lovely scenery and lots of attractive farm properties, mostly ones that have been restored but some still working farms. The sound of Curlews followed us too but all was not romantic - the slurry man was busy going to and from the tank up on to the hillside and spaying liberally, a very healthy smell.
Great day thank you Corinthian and R for organising it and J (Mr Yorkshirebred) for taking us.
I'm shattered now!
