Dinner in Asia
Nine of us neighbour-friend-colleagues, including our visiting artist (here) took the ferry from Arnavutkoy to the Asian/Anatolian side of Istanbul to have dinner together at Inciraltı Meyhanesi (a popular Mehhane in Beylerbeyi that serves traditional Turkish mezes), to introduce our guest to the delights of Turkish cuisine (he loved it, so did we) and then we came home again. "Meyhane" is composed of two Persian words: mey (wine) and khāneh (house) - Wikipedia. (That's two nights in a row I've wined and dined with friends - better get my exercise face on tomorrow - if not my exercise body.)
Earlier I had watched Ireland pretty much annihilate Italy (56 -10) in the fourth round of the Six Nations with perhaps the most polite referee ever (Angus Gardner ARU, I salute your conflict resolution skills that would be useful in any classroom) and was reluctant to leave the house to go to dinner as England and Wales kicked off an hour later. Bad timing - but I didn't think that they would reschedule their fixture list according to our dinner plans. Going to watch the match later on catch-up TV so please don't tell me the score.
