Work begins

Thursday I was up early, eagerly awaiting the floor guys...they didn't arrive until about 9:30 but were quickly set up and ready to go. First job, grinding the concrete to get it all clean and even. They had a clever set up with a hose and a shop vac but this job still created a layer of dust on everything...sigh
We discussed the layout of the tiles, this chap was very helpful, laying out various options for me and explaining the necessaries as best he could. Sometimes struggling with his English but we managed to understand each other well enough...since beginning my French studies a few months ago I am so much more admiring of people who are able to speak in a second language...
Once we had a plan they got straight to work, one cutting, the other laying. They worked solidly for about 8 hours with a super short break to eat their lunch out on my front porch - and they were done with the laying.
I was reminded several times "no kitchen tonight, only in the morning" ... I promised to behave and stay out of the kitchen :0)
I totally broke the rules and tiptoed halfway across the floor to throw No1 son the front door key late that night in case he had to get to the bathroom (the laundry rm & kitchen separate his room from the bathroom so if he wanted to go, he had to go out through the garage and in the front door). I trod lightly, staying in the centre of each tile and made the kids swear not to tell on me :0)
The tile man will never know
