Wood Cutting
Lovely day working at home, my neighbour had an hour to spare, with his chainsaw, so we made a start processing the huge pile of gorse sticks that have been cut and carried down the land by tractor and trailer or by Henry the horse. The cut pieces will be stacked and stored in the woodshed for this winter.
The rainy summer has really encouraged the grass growth and the system of pathways around the farm all need a bit of attention, this usually involves taking the loppers to any branches, brambles or gorse that is encroaching, then an annual cut with the strimmer, this happens in the late summer when any wild flowers have seeded. Today I worked on a stretch of pathway and cleared around some young trees on route.
We took a quick trip out to look for the local swans who have at last hatched out there cygnets, no luck but we will try again tomorrow, I wonder what their chances are with so many predators, mink, herons and the sea otter I saw just recently with earthdreamer, I guess an otter would take a cygnet?
The day ended with a very nice meal in Ballydehob, and an evening of entertainment with local musicians, singers and comedians, wonderful to share this with so many friends and to appreciate what a talented, creative bunch of people there are locally!
