Spillway

We went for a hike today to Buttonrock Dam.  The road to the trailhead only recently reopened after the flood in 2013.  There was fear that the dam wouldn't hold.  It did but the excess water in the reservoir flowed over the top and flooded the immediate area, washing out the road and several bridges.  If the dam had broken, Longmont would have been underwater.  This is the spillway that shoots out water into the St. Vrain River with tremendous force.  As can be seen in my blip and the extra (taken from the other side), the water shoots out of the pipe, hits the river and splashes up in a huge arc with a deafening roar.  The pictures really don't do it justice but I love the rainbow in this shot. :-)
