Chaffinch waits patiently
The woodpecker returned today. He spent a long time on the nuts. So long, in fact, that the smaller birds seemed to get a bit fed up of waiting for their turn. This female chaffinch hovered nearby. A great tit got much closer and tried to shame the woodpecker into leaving by staring at him, but to no avail. (See 1st Extra.) He is a handsome bird, though. And I did catch him with a peanut in his beak. (See 2nd Extra.)
Today's weather's been such a contrast to the wild winds that brought down trees yesterday. It was warm, calm and beautiful. Spent nearly two hours gardening and the washing dried on the line. I think we may have similar tomorrow. Hope so!
