Midden

Have dog, live on coast, will beach, especially at weekends. Never the same one twice in a row, luckily lots to choose from. Back to Bridge of Don estuary beach this time, it's been my least favourite, always gritty, often grimy, frequently littered. The beach I grew up beside.

I liked it more today, a wee bit gritty, not grimy, not too much litter. But the real change of heart....so much pottery pieces everywhere, with weird and wonderful writing....TO IMPRISON....?????.....perhaps the storms and the floods unearthed a midden. The big gaudy number, the colourful one, on the other side it's stamped Doulton Lambeth, no less than Royal Doulton made over a century ago according to the artists mark. And a fragment of an old Keillor's Marmalade pot, not that surprising a find round these parts but lovely nonetheless. I think I might just have created a monster of myself, on the beaches of a weekend, OCD'ing for shards of old pottery with writing and going home to google their history. I also have over 10 cardigans. Yes, I'm that dull.
