Beach Boy
Back to back-blipping as a bad storm scuppered the good wifi at our current residence.
We started the day with walk down to the local beach; the beach was beautiful with the waves rolling in from the Indian Ocean although the walk to it was more tedious as mainly on roads so not interesting. My blip (in mono) shows the beach with the early light casting shadows emphasising shape and form. After an excellent breakfast we visited the Wetlands Nature Reserve north of St Lucia. This gradually revealed its interesting features and we ended up seeing quite a few animals, including buffalo which we hadn’t seen before; the leopard remains a mythical creature seen only by others in the wild!
Whilst watching the Nyala from a useful ‘hide’ (today’s extra) we could see and hear a storm brewing – rumbles of thunder, grey clouds gathering.... the sort of omens that Granny Weatherwax of Pratchett fame would say ‘boded badly’! We were on our way out of the park anyway, but a close encounter with a wild boar right on the side of the road, not caring about us at all, meant out came the cameras again! The rain was now starting and got heavier.... and heavier! By now the thunder and lightning were all around and the cars driving slowly along ceased looking for animals and just started to look for the road!! It was quite a storm - spectacular when viewed from the safety of a car.
We paused on our return journey to book a river cruise for the morning; a boat had just docked which had got caught in the storm and blown onto a mud bank necessitating a tow from another boat. All the passengers were cheerful enough (they had been in no danger) but were completely soaked through by all the rain. Back at our B&B, we found all the power had gone – not really surprising – and the wifi with it. Power wasn’t on again until late evening but the wifi router had died!
Another interesting and challenging aspect to the holiday – we will have a few tales to tell!
