SUCKLING HOUSE, ST ANDREW'S ST, NORWICH

Horrible to be getting up today when everyone else was still asleep, but there you go. Maybe it is my punishment for something bad I did in a previous life...or perhaps for hoovering up spiders in this one, I don't know! Anyway, an icy cold drive to work, but relatively little traffic. Work was mundane, but jobs that must be done. At lunch I got out briefly, and decided to find some history right on my work doorstep. And nothing is closer than this building. The sign says ,'Sucklings House' detailing a list of previous residents - from Wm de Rollesby in 1285 through various Bailiffs and Mayors (all called John!) to Robert Suckling MP Mayor in 1564.The building being named after the Suckling family.

The building itself has parts dating back to the 1300s. The Great Hall and vaulted bays were built between 1325 & 1348. I believe these are now within 'The Dining Rooms' the bar and cafe linked to Cinema City, right next to our office building (the windows in the roof of the building just begin are our office I think). There is a huge amount of info online, which I won't replicate here, but knowing that a few of my new work colleagues occasionally read my blip, I thought some very close history would be appreciated!

I left at 4, feeling shattered! Home just after 5. I've been out to Morrisons and now feel a bit more awake. Think the weather is not going to be what I would like for the garden jobs I have planned. But even the weather will not stop me from having a long lie in tomorrow.....
