Lyth Valley

Today's the day ................................. for an evening walk

By the end of the afternoon, the drizzly rain of the day had given way to blue skies and sun - just right for a bar supper at the Punchbowl Inn at Underbarrow followed by an evening stroll in the Lyth Valley.

The low-lying, sheltered valley is flanked by the steep limestone ridges of Scout Scar to the east and Whitbarrow to the west. It is famous for its damsons - a sort of plum - used for making desserts, jam, punch, damson gin and wine.

In the far middle distance is Arnside Knott - the hill beloved by gladders and often featured in his journal. And then of course no Lakeland view would be complete without a few sheep grazing on the hill.

A lovely evening - for a lovely walk ...................................
