Cruising the Chilean Fjords
A day spent cruising the majesty of the Chilean fjords -- such an amazing landscape -- stark and barren, yet so stunning. Great gray mountains of stone rear up from the water, with sparse vegetation clinging to the lower portions. Waterfalls can be glimpsed cascading down sheer rock faces, and more than once today we spotted curious seals poking their heads up out of the water to watch us sail past. The weather has not been optimal -- very gray and cloudy with intermittent rain showers, but it's added its own romantic beauty to the scenery, with wisps of cloud and mist nestling in the crevasses and spilling over the mountain tops. The other astonishing thing is there is absolutely no sign of human habitation anywhere to be seen -- just pristine wilderness.
