The Collingwood Mural

An early start this morning with a visit to the Rotary Club of Whakatu in Nelson - a breakfast club meeting at 7 am where we were made most welcome and listened to a very interesting talk about the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary project.
We then set off in the car driving North past Tasman Bay heading for Golden Bay stopping on the way at Hawkes Lookout where we enjoyed spectacular views of the Kahurangi National Park- we were interested to see that one of the distant mountains was Ben Nevis! Unfortunately the sky was grey today and although still lovely and warm in the mid 20s C the hazy conditions meant that the full panorama did not photograph as well as I am sure it would on a clear day.
Having climbed to the top we then descended the hair pin bends down to the Old Goldmining Town of Collingwood.
We loved the old Post Office and stopped to admire this Collingwood Mural which was an outdoor community art project where 43 residents and visitors shared the painting process with the guidance of an artist.
