Shopping in the 50s
For throw-back Thursday I thought I'd blip a pic of the shop I grew up in.
I was a pest behind the counter as soon as I could walk.
The blip is a pic of my aunt Elsie in the hardware shop she ran with my uncle. We lived next door to the shop and it was a second home for me
I remember playing in a cardboard box (I must have been young) and crashed down a step to break the plate glass of the counter. I could have been killed but survived unhurt.
As I grew older I'd serve in the shop but was flummoxed when a customer asked for 'watery paper' - toilet rolls to you and me
Does anyone remember the hard Izal sheets?
Actually, best forgotten
