3 Bob Challenge: Alphabet: Y: Yesnaby
You know how much Mr P enjoys the extreme weather of Orkney...That is how we ended up walking at Yesnaby today. When we got home we saw that wind speeds in the last hour had reached 99mph from the west, Yesnaby faces full west.
Although our drive there was under sunshine, the sea coming up over the 100/150ft cliffs made our walk extremely wet...and salty. Whilst PW trudged through the upwardly blown waterfall and way beyond to get his blip, me and the dogs stayed put. On our bums. Anchored. Back against the mighty gusts.
Losing sight of PW in the sea spray made me think this was maybe a foolish situation. Just as I was catastrophizing about the high cliffs, weather and the impossibility of any air or sea rescue in these conditions the gusts picked up and in came big chunks of hail. Brilliant. Every dog for themselves, they hunkered down to shelter beside me, making sure I took the pelting.
Eventually I spied PW making his way back through the upward waterfall, pulling himself forward on the fence posts.
This is Sigyn afterwards, sheltering in one of the old war buildings at the car park. The only bit of shelter I dared get the camera out in.
It's OK, Bob & Bobbage, we're still alive....We will make it through the alphabet!! :D
