Derelict Gate

I walked into the town today as the weather was good, pausing to stop on the way to photograph these gates; the state of dereliction is very clear. The building behind the gates was once the Workhouse of Aylesbury  when the workhouse in the town centre was overcrowded (1829) and a better one built further out.  This building was later taken over to become a hospital, in recent times as a Psychiatric centre - I think there are still a few day patients and clinics in one part of the building although the hospital is now housed in better surroundings close by.

I've often noticed these gates as they are on a road which leads to a roundabout and, at certain times, the traffic is crawling past so plenty of time to gaze around.

Photos done, I continued into town to meet daughter and granddaughters for lunch and a few 'errands', including selecting some new specs frames to replace the damaged ones of several weeks back. - eldest granddaughter very useful for an honest opinion on the merits of different styles!

Out this evening for a 'Flanders and Swann' recital by a couple of members of John's choir - should be fun!
