Albert Docks

Friday
A grey wet day today, so after we had seen Matthew and Pam and Mike off, the three of us, together with Janet and John and Barry and Janet headed into Liverpool for the day. We went first to the huge Anglican cathedral. The total external length of the building, including the Lady Chapel, is 620 ft, making it the second longest cathedral in the world. In terms of overall volume, Liverpool Cathedral ranks as the fifth-largest cathedral in the world. In spite of the Gothic design, the cathedral is a product of the twentieth century - construction started in 1906, and continued until the early1980's. We had some lunch in the Cathedral cafe, then we went for a wander around the Albert Docks area. Situated in the largest group of Grade I listed buildings in the UK, the Albert Dock is home to a number of visitor attractions - Tate Liverpool, the Beatles Story, Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum. We chose to have a look round the Maritime Museum, which was quite interesting.
