Shared Space....
This is further to yesterday's blip where I mentioned about Poynton being a 'Shared Space' town.
I took mum to the doctors this morning so I 'blipped' one of the many road signs advertsing the fact that Poynton is a 'Shared Space' village (not quite sure why they've put village when it's now a town).
About a year ago, a lot of money was spent on re-designing Poynton based on a Scandinavian town where cars and pedestrians have equal rights of way. So in the centre of the town there are no traffic lights and the footpaths and roads just all blend into one.
It's very aesthetically pleasing, but it's not very practical - particularly for the elderly who have failing eyesight or hearing problems. They have to trust that cars are going to stop for them when crossing the road.
Also, as a driver, it's fine if you know the layout of the roads but as a visitor, you really wouldn't know who's got right of way!
Anyway, I'm sorry it's not a very exciting blip, but it's raining (for a change) and I won't get many other opportunities today.
Hope the weather's better where you are!
