A bit optimistic
Lots of different things happen on the farm, and today was one of those days when something different did happen.
This morning feeding out we noticed that one of the culverts had blocked, flooding the paddock next door. After lunch, my husband (Farmer Boy) rang our local digger contractor to see if he was available to unblock the culvert, and then perhaps clean out the creek. Unfortuantely the digger contractor was out of cellphone range, so Farmer Boy left a message for him to ring us.
Rather than wait for the digger to arrive, Farmer Boy decided that he should be able to unblock the culvert by using his tractor, and then scooping out the muck blocking the culvert with his shovel. Things were going well, until the tractor sunk in some soft ground on the edge of the creek, and became stuck. He never gave up - and managed to finish the job by hand shovelling the muck from the culvert.
One problem solved, and another one created! How was he going to get the tractor out? Our next door neighbour thought that his 4.5ltr V8 Landcruiser should be able to do the job. My picture today shows the Landcruiser trying to pull the tractor out - we thought it was a bit optimistic, however our neighbour thought it was worth a try. Needless to say it didn't work - I loved this action picture showing all the exhaust fumes coming out of the vehicle while he was reeving the guts out of it.
Our next best shot was going to get our other John Deere Tractor from up at our old run off and seeing if it could pull it out. Unfortunately this didn't work either, so until the digger contractor arrives with his digger, our poor tractor is still stuck in the ditch, where it is likely to stay for the night!
Farmer Boy was really annoyed that this had happened, however the rest of us thought it was a great joke.
So we won't be able to use the tractor and feed out wagon in the morning, so I hope you think of us all feeding out to the cows by hand. Should be an interesting and long morning........
