Large Fever!
Rosemary had a ‘face’ on, quite a disapproving one. In fact there was no ‘quite’ about the face. She was extremely unhappy.
I had been awake most of the night, feeling nauseous and full of a fevery cold. It has started, as it does, with a wee sore throat yesterday morning and had developed into leaving me feeling dreadful at bed-time. “You’re not going to work like that” she said. She spoke with at a disapproving volume, partly in displeasure and partly because my ear canals seemed to be blocked. I had lost my voice too.
She was right of course. Women always are. However, I had lectures and tutorials which needed to be prepared for next week and as well as a meeting that I didn’t want to miss! The journey to Bridge of Allan was painless as I had my head buried in writing stuff. Less fun was the torrential rain at the other side! The River Allan had burst it’s banks a little bit too!
After a scone and my meeting, I buried myself in work so didn’t notice how poorly I was. I went out for a wee bit fresh air and got Justine to come as I needed a photo for an article that is being published next week. This is my blip photo today.
In the middle of me ‘shooting’ an online lecture, the phone went! I tried to put it on silent and then the voicemail started to go daft! I had to joke about it as a time consuming edit was not the order of the day!
It was David from Espresso Services calling to say my La Pavoni was ready. Yippee. He said it had a cracked gasket sleeve. This would explain why pressure in the group was limited, despite me grinding to Turkish levels (think very fine golden sand). With the extra spare parts required, it was only £12 more than the estimate. It has a new gaskets, ‘glass’ and a green pressure light too so should be working like new!
When I had all my essential jobs done, I decided on an early night. Unfortunately, I was rendering video for a lecture and it took about an hour, buggering up the speed of my computer as a result. I started to shiver violently as soon as my work focus had gone…. I had a nice wee online chat with Julia, one of my favourite friends from British Cycling. That helped.
Eventually the video completed its render, I got my jacket and headed to get the bus. I was in no state to walk up to Bridge of Allan station and the bus took me to Stirling instead. I felt so bad that I was desperate on a sugar fix, buying a Double Decker and not giving a shit who the manufacturer was. Nestle is one of my many boycotted companies, but when it’s a life and man-flu situation, extreme measures are required.
