andrew

this is my old friend Andrew. we took fiction writing classes together during our Master's program at St. Edward's University here in Austin. maybe this shot will be on the dust jacket for his new novel someday.

after a breakfast of cheap Texas beers and biscuits with Leah's brother and sister-in-law and a whim purchase of a severed ram's head at a South Congress flea market, we met up with Andrew and his wife Emily at True Blue Tattoo where he was getting his arm piece finished. i have fond memories of them having me over for Thanksgiving those years ago when i used to live here. alas, in three weeks, Andrew and Emily are moving to the Miami Florida area where he will begin an MFA program in fiction writing. Emily works in the health care industry as a PA but has yet to lock down something permanent, though that will happen soon surely. indeed, they are going to do quite well for themselves down there (partly because they like it there so much--they got married in Key West, at Ernest Hemingway's old house, I believe). I am looking forward to reading Andrew's new work in the coming years (we've always seemed to be pretty good about keeping in touch in that regard, exchanging stories with each other).

Leah and I are back at our hotel for the moment, recharging, before heading out later on the bicycles for a repeat of last night's Eastside bar crawl. and maybe meeting up with some more old friends from our Austin past. this town, it really is pure magic.
