Today's the day ........................... to chop wood

When we're heading north to Edinburgh, we always take the old road - the A6 - for fifteen miles or so. It's quite a dramatic road as it winds its way up out of the Kent Valley and up over Shap Fell where it eventually joins in with the M6 Motorway at Junction 39.

You never used to be able to see any distance once you were up on the plateau because of the thick plantations of conifers on either side of the road. For the past few months however, there has been lots of activity going on and now you can see for miles. The trees have been chopped, stripped of branches and bark and stacked into massive logpiles.

It all looks quite different ...........................
