Wintry Cross
Had a great day today riding my bike in the snow. I was in the B Race, my historic slowness consigning me to the support event, though it did mean I got to watch the fast folk going toe-to-toe. And the format of this Super Quaich series of four races (of which I'm riding three) means you're always around people of the same sort of ability, so always in a race, and it certainly makes you feel more involved.
Somehow I stayed upright, despite quite a few sketchy moments, and some fun two-wheeled slides. My chain skipped off twice, annoyingly, after I'd changed the cable and set the gears up again last night, though I think I've determined it's a new chain / worn cassette interface that's to blame.
Anyway, it really was so much fun, and I've achieved my aim for the series in the first race. Basically points are awarded for the first 150 riders. Everyone who finishes the A race (up to 100 riders) gets points, with the leftovers flowing down into the B race. I'd hoped that by my third race (in 5 weeks) I might have built up to achieve a point, but with 71 riders finishing the A race, and me coming in 61st in the B race, I've got points in the bag.
New aim, finishing higher than halfway up the field....
