It's as cold as ice
A cold morning but beautiful ,frosty and sunny, so we headed to Cromarty and had a walk along the Links. The tide was almost in and oyster catchers jumped away from the incoming waves. Eider ducks were calling in their Frankie Howard voices, Guillemots ducked under water, crows broke mussels, flying high and then dropping them to break the shell. Herring Gulls squabbled, our friend the robin was hoping for crumbs but no food from us ( must put a few crumbs in a bag to carry around).
A boat headed out to one of the rigs, so quiet we could hear the tannoy directing orders to the men on board.
As we approached the harbour a boat had come in and had unloaded it's catch filling a large white van with colourful boxes and buckets One crab had escaped. I heard one of them say it was down to -8 this morning. ( one of the men that is , not a crab ;) )
A walk down the slippery slope and over the frozen seaweed to the sand to continue our walk. Smoke from all the chimneys drifted over the still water. Getting colder as the sun started to set and the moon rose above The White House.
Home for a warming cup of tea and a slice of Black Forest Gateaux.
