Celebrating...
Mr Cs birthday today.
We (we being 7 of us. Children and partners but sadly Lucy stayed home as she has got lots of school work to do. We missed her but realistically we don't expect to see her until holidays while she gets her head around this teaching lark!) started our evening by going up for an early supper to Cafe Pacifico in Covent Garden, a wonderful Mexican. Then it was off to explore Lumiere London, a light festival displayed in different parts of London.
The exhibition itself was wonderful. However, I'm not sure the organisers anticipated the number of visitors to it. Far, far to busy to really enjoy it at its best. Although we were following a map, first on my phone than a paper version we picked up...it wasn't the easiest to follow. Very little policing around (even Sim was surprised because of the volume of people). Later I read online that some displays had to be switched off due to overcrowding and the organisers suggested people not to go up and visit on Sunday (probably a little late by then). The exhibition is only on for 4 days...maybe 10 would have been better covering two weekends.
Anyway, on with our evening. From Covent Garden we walked through Trafalgar Square, Pall Mall, towards Piccadilly, Regent Street, Carnaby Street, Oxford Street and then home. Getting stuck (due to crowds) under an arch where the elephant hologram was was quite scary and we all stopped for coffee and a breather. I had been hoping to make it to the Mayfair display area too but we had been walking a good four hours and we had had enough of the crowds.
I think you have guessed, we all enjoyed it but needs better organisation and longer festival for it to be enjoyable. ;-)
I have added a couple of extras including a piece of wall art found in Carnaby Street. Details about it here https://londonmuralpreservationsociety.wordpress.com/2012/11/20/my-favourite-mural-by-gillian-da-costa-the-spirit-of-soho/
