Cairo Reflections

This taxi driver had the patience of Job as I did my errands around the Cairo block. Today there was a purchase of ink for the printer, a delivery of Dd's iPad to the British Council where she is making final preparations for her course starting tomorrow, a trip into Downtown to collect a mislaid bag of Christmas presents and purchase an electric-powered oil-filled radiator in anticipation of falling temperatures, a stop for coffee and then a visit to the supermarket to restock with basics. Not sure when Dd will finish but we hope to have a couple of hours of downtime later this afternoon.

POSTSCRIPT RE BLIPFUTURE

Here's the post I've just put on my Facebook page in an effort to raise more funds for our survival. You may wish to consider adopting or adapting it . . . we don't link our blips through to FB and we have never shared our usernames or journal names there, but I think it's worth a mention to spread the word . . . and we have any friends who do use Blipfoto to keep up with us!

Save Blipfoto

Please join in a great crowdfunding opportunity to create a Community Interest Company and ensure the survival of the fantastic photo-journal site, Blipfoto.

Many of you know that C. and I are passionate daily photo-journal writers, both of us having been posting each day for nearly six years . . . that's over two thousand records each of our days in words and pictures!

We have built up a great circle of friends both virtual and real among the several thousand members of the site who are spread around the entire world. The several million photos and daily journal entries posted so far on the site represent a unique insight into the world as it is in this early part of the 21st century, so much so that the British Library have added Blipfoto to the national archive.

And many of you while not posting members are active users of the site using it to follow what we're up to and where we are . . . not always easy to divine!

The Blipfoto community are now raising funds to buy the site from the commercially-focused current owners. We have raised nearly £130,000 of the £180,000 needed to provide a viable future and save the site from closure as the current owners do not see it fitting into their revenue producing plans and are no longer prepared to fund its running costs. However, the site is worth preserving for the non-commercial reasons mentioned above and it's an interesting opportunity to create an ad-free, not-for-profit corner of the internet that is run by its community of members as they want to run it to serve the purpose and preserve the values they hold dear.

You can pledge to buy a share in this community initiative for as little as £10 if you live in Europe or make a goodwill donation if you live somewhere in the rest of the world.

The deadline is looming to put the funds in place to trigger a viable future. Please consider pledging or donating what you can, even if just £10.

You can do so here . . .

and you can see the site itself here, if you don't know it already . . .

www.blipfoto.com

We love the place and can hardly imagine not having it! You may even want to start a journal yourself and build up your own unique record of your life which you can share with your family and friends!

The shot here of a Cairo taxi driver is the 'blip' I posted for today . . . I hope it won't be one of the last I post.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.
