The Wren

Gaudi

Given that I had just two days of exploring to do, the obvious choice was to use the Barcelona Tourist Bus and hop on and off whenever I felt I wished. This way I was able to see just how expansive Gaudi's influence was over this beautiful city. There were many attractions this day, the fascinating architecture on even the humblest of buildings, the fabulous and colourful markets, Las Ramblas, the harbour but the "piece de resistance" for me was a visit to the Casa Battlo, a house completely redesigned by Gaudi for a friend. The interior of the house was as spectacular as the outside but his clever and intuitive use of wood was astonishing - every single piece - and there were many -  was carved so that you just had to touch it to complete the satisfaction of all senses. The day culminated in a most enjoyable Tapas in the shadow of the famous Sagrada Familia (still not completed) and an evening at La Pedrera to experience more of Gaudi's iconic work.
