Red Squirrel

You Shouldn't Be Here!

LARGER.

This isn't the greatest pic technically - far from it - but I just HAD to blip it.
Quite honestly after the deluges of this morning (I was woken by a really bad bout of tendonitis around 5am, and heard the rain thundering down on my roof), I'm just glad to have a blip at all today! Driving to work was horrendous, surface flooding in loads of places and visibility horrible. Luckily the rain eventually eased off, by afternoon it was dry and this evening is gorgeous, apart from the seemigly ever-present strong winds - if it carries on like this and the winds get progressively worse, we'll end up as Europe's answer to Patagonia ....

Whilst dinner cooked I took a look around the garden, there were insects everywhere and potential floral blips too. But whilst snapping some insects on one of my Clematis, I noticed this stunning green one arriving on it. I took many shots, then it moved onto this weed. I took some more. This was the best of them (damn my temperamental macro!), and yes I've edited it to get the best I can from it. I did get some much better insect shots, but the reason I feel compelled to blip this one is because of what it unmistakably is - a male Oedemera nobilis. According to my most recent Insect book, from 1986, this insect doesn't appear in Northern Europe. Of course things may have changed since 1986, but if my book is still accurate then this is a rarity and I may well never see one again!

It's FRIDAY! Yay! Have a great weekend!
