The Sensitive Sea
We are spending this week from Monday PM to Friday AM in an oceanfront condo in North Myrtle Beach. Even though it is cold, the ocean is as amazing as ever. I decided to use today's beach photo with the path over the low sand dune to illustrate a poem I wrote years ago. The poem follows:
THE SENSITIVE SEA
Your antics
Like waves lapping on the shore
Dredge feelings
Carried by the undertow
Among the swells.
The still tidal pools
Reflect the indifference remaining
After the erosion
Among the shells and grains of sand
We held when vacationing here.
As gulls gather
To watch sand castles washing away
Distance grows
And you fade away
Like the sun setting beneath the sea.
Darkness comes to the beach
And a place within my soul
Leaving a flicker from a distant buoy
Crossing paths with the moon
To illuminate a trail among the dunes.
