Winter Count

"The Plains People preserved their history not only orally, but also with paintings. Winter Counts were pictures showing each year's major events. This one was painted around 1880, probably by White Swan, one of General George Armstrong Custer's Crow Scouts in 1876. Part of it appears to relate to the Battle of the Little Big Horn."

We drove all over today to see some of the area; we went to Crystal Bridge Art Museum which has spectacular views of both water and woods from almost every area of the museum, not to mention a top notch art collection! We drove over to see the lot where Court and Matt will be having their house built, had an ice cream stop, and a stop at the Native American Museum, where the girls got to search for arrow heads, and we got to see their extensive collection of Indian articles--everything from weapons, to pottery, to headdresses and ghost shirts (my personal favorites), to portraits of some of the most important indian chiefs. Such a fun day spent with the family!! (not to mention sunny & in the 50's!! :))
