Framed

Took this just before we dropped the girls off at the ferry for their trip home.  The thumbnail is of Krista's broken middle finger taped to her ring finger.  She broke the bone completely through, in a spiral shape, stopping a draft horse that bolted with her friend on it (bareback).   The bone is held together by pins (permanent) and wires (which might work their way out).
We had a wonderful three days with the three of them and a bit of excitement last night.  I was still awake, but the three of them had drifted into sleep.  There was a tremendous noise that scared me and woke them all up frightened.  I thought it was a huge gust of wind or racoons knocking over the garbage can (although it was too loud for that), and Kalyn said right away, "That was an earthquake!  I can feel the shaking!"  I was on the mattress on the floor with her and couldn't feel shaking so I told her she was imagining things.  We went back to sleep and a few minutes later there was a ringing - woke us up and Kalyn jumped up to check her phone, knowing that she'd turned it off.  "Something's going on! "  she said loudly.  She turned on her phone and had a load of messages - turns out she wasn't imagining things and we were very close to the epicentre of an earthquake measuring 4.3 - 4.9, according to 2 different reports.   Krista turned on her phone too, lots of friends from home wondering if they were okay.  G felt it but we only heard it.   No reports of damage, although plenty of people in different regions felt it.
The ringing was Krista's friend from Toronto FaceTiming her, and if he hadn't called, we'd all have slept through the night, knowing nothing about the earthquake until this morning.
A reminder to check our earthquake-preparedness kits.
Playing around a bit with photos of the girls and added an extra.
