Mima's World

Today I went to visit Bob, one of my friends from our church.  I know I've shared a photo of him before.....he is 99 years old and will be 100 on April 21, 2016.  We're all looking forward to celebrating with him on that day!!!  He's a fascinating man, an officer in the Navy during WW II, dog breeder and the man responsible for getting the Alaskan Malamute into the American Kennel Club as a breed (and had several Malamutes).
Our visit was colored by the recent death of his only daughter on Christmas Eve.  She had just been to visit him 10 days earlier and he is still in shock over her sudden death.  Tragically, she had a fall and was killed instantly.  It was hard to know what to say to him, so I just told him how sorry I am Kris had died.  That was enough for him as he said "it's part of life" and went on talking about something else.  Amazing.  I think we all wonder about how we would handle different circumstances and Bob was an excellent example of dealing with it just as he does everything else:  with grace and dignity.  Amazing man, and happy he's my friend.
