The best coffee with a view thrown in for free
The other couple that we have shared the cottage with returned "oop north" today, but we still have another night here.
We had a lovely walk around part of the Fal Estuary, where there are lots of beautiful little inlets.
When we had finsihed our walk (which was about three and a half hours) we popped into Portscatho for a coffee and crab sandwich. Unfortunately we couldn't see anywhere that might sell crab sandwiches, but spotted a place down by the jetty selling coffee and cakes, and it had this fantastic view too. It is all outdoor seating, but that was no problem - it was nice and sunny, if a bit breezy.
We enjoyed the best coffee that we have had all week, and a glorious view of Porthcurnick Beach and Gerrans Bay and Gull Rock thrown in too. After we left there we spotted a place up the hill which sold crab sandwiches! After sharing a chocolate brownie we were no longer hungry. Oh well.
After leaving Portscatho we drove to the 13th century church at St Just in Roseland as we had been told that it was worth a visit. It was one of the prettiest churches I've ever seen, and is set amongst almost tropical gardens, where all sorts of flowers and shrubs (including magnolia) were in full bloom. My extra is of a gravestone there, (and yes it was at this angle) which was rather striking. I love the name Bathsheba Tiddy. She survived her husband by just over 4 months, and they both died quite young. Tiddy is obviously a local family name, as there were lots of stones with this name all in the same area. I must admit, if you had to choose a resting place for the next few hundred years, you could do a lot worse than here.
