Waning Gibbous
As they’re so rare these days, I had to take advantage of the mostly clear skies over night. I spent five hours on the beach at Selsey. I did get caught out by the recent high day time temperatures, the wind off the water was freezing. This is a composite of images taken over four and a half hours, first attempt at a composite so really happy with the result.
Here are a few facts about the Moon in its current state:-
The Moon today is in a Waning Gibbous Phase. This is the first phase after the Full Moon occurs. It lasts roughly 7 days with the Moon’s illumination growing smaller each day until the Moon becomes a Last Quarter Moon with an illumination of 50%. The average Moon rise for this phase is between 9am and Midnight depending on the age of the phase. The moon rises later and later each night setting after sunrise in the morning. During this phase the Moon can also be seen in the early morning daylight hours on the western horizon.
