Three extraordinary Christian Ladies

Reading Andrew Duff's brilliant Sikkim in which he drew on the letters and reminiscences of Martha Steedman nee Hamilton and her successor as headmistress of the main girls' school in Gangtok,Ishbel Ritchie, it reminded of another truly good and brave Brit, Gladys Alward, who life was somewhat over glamorised in the still lovely film. The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. The courage of all three going out East sometimes in real danger , to show by example, that a life based on the teachings of Christ is both rewarding and joyeous.
