Untitled (corner piece)

Today I went to Liverpool to visit the Turner/Monet/Twombly exhibition at the Tate. It was ok with few surprises. I liked the vibrancy of some of Twombly's work. No photographs allowed in there, of course.

This blip was taken in the Sculpture exhibition, of part of the Tate's permanent collection. This is always superb. I have visited several times; it is always changing but has some constant elements, such as this piece by Dan Flavin in 1969.

One of the things I like about the Tate Liverpool is its accessibility and openness to young people. There was a large group of students there this morning. The "corner piece" is accompanied by a video, showing schoolchildren reacting to and commenting on the piece.

Two other pieces of sculpture I liked were this, by Rene Magritte and, especially for her shadow, this nude figure. I also always enjoy the views from the Tate's windows.

Nearby is the controversial recent development on the waterfront, including the new Museum of Liverpool, which I like and this, which I do not.

The view across the Mersey is good in all weathers.
