18th door of Advent Calendar

And Advent Calendar is a very popular phenomenon in Finland. Every other finn has one, and the idea is to count days up till the Santa Claus coming. This is my calendar.

In Finland you can walk and pick berries in any forest, but it is forbidden to cut any living tree from the forest if it is not your own property.

So mostly we finns have to buy our christmas tree. Fresh trees are sold in squares or markets at this time until xmas eve, Norway spruces or sometimes nowadays also fir trees are used.
Today I took a couple of hours off from work and we drove to the Heinätori square with my daughter and mum and helped my mother to buy a lovely christmas tree for her and drove it also home for her. The tube there is to packet the tree.

In the christmas carol today a comedian Jope Ruonansuu sings (and small town people act) a story about an illegal way to cut a christmas tree from the woods. Normally the police would give a ticket if you steal a tree, but not in this song... In the song the comedian sings about how the former mr " president of Finland Mara" goes to the woods with his son.

In the link play they act the song happenings - so you can see how "Mara" and his son ski with bare feet into the woods, cut an illegal christmas tree and to the surprice they also meet the police - and finally drink whiskey with the familiar willage police, who actually also is in the woods stealing a christmas tree... :)

Wet day. All the snow that snowed yesterday has melt. Rain, rain and mist too in the air.
