Shuto Uke kiai
Received a really interesting email from Kancho this morning, talking about kata: the required kata for shodan, and some general things about choosing more advanced kata on which to focus - what guides that choice, and that karate masters might not keep up all the kata, abandoning some in favour of others for one reason or another.
Anyhoo, the two more advanced kata required at shodan level are Tekki Shodan and Bassai Dai - at a very good level. So this evening I popped outside, ran through each a few times (to fascination and applause from missy-moo and the lad), and then whipped off a few photies.
My favourite, after a bit of most-unusual-for-me messing about, was this, at the very end of Bassai Dai:

Ten points for figuring out the unwonted messing-about. ;)
